A Bryan man was arrested Wednesday, accused of kidnapping his girlfriend.

James Brachel Tucker, 27, was also charged with assault family violence after police responded to the 1600 block of Lucky Street after witnesses reported a couple fighting late Tuesday night. His bail had not been set Wednesday evening.

According to the police report, witnesses told officers the man forced the woman into his vehicle, but she was able to get away and ran across a field.

The man chased after the woman and began hitting her, the witnesses told police. He then returned to the car and drove it to where the woman was, telling her to get into the vehicle as he continued to assault her, according to the police report.

Officers found the couple in the car at a home on West 14th Street. The 24-year-old woman denied an assault took place. Officers observed two knots and multiple scratches on her face, according to the report.

Kidnapping is a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in jail and fines up to $10,000. Assault family violence is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and fines up to $4,000.
